Keith Sapsford was a 14-year-old Australian boy who attempted to stow away on a plane bound for Tokyo at Sydney Airport in 1970. He hid himself in the wheel well of the plane but fell to his death when the plane's landing gear retracted. His body was discovered on arrival in Japan.
Sapsford's death sparked an investigation into airport security and led to increased safety measures at airports around the world. His story was also the subject of a documentary film titled "Stowaway" in 1978.
Sapsford's parents, Max and Mona Sapsford, became advocates for improved airport security and created a foundation in their son's name to support causes related to aviation safety.
